Best Rock Pseudonym/Alter Ego?

What's the best rock band member pseudonym?
I'm not thinking a band like GWAR where everyone has a stage name - and I don't mean legal or unofficial name changes like David Jones/Bowie or Gene Simmons/Chaim Witz, either. And not nicknames that the member had before the band, either (I know - lots of rules).
I'm thinking more like Buck Dharma, Fee Waybill, and Perry Farrell - where the name is kind of band-related alter ego that stuck over time (a subtle distinction, I know).

Hmmm...trying to decide if the Pistols fall into this category. If they do, there would be a LOT of punk rockers that would fit.

It's not exactly rock, but Englebert Humperdinck has to be near the top of the list, right? It's practically a song all by itself.

And I'll bet the Cheap Trick fan in Pat will appreciate how Brad Carlson took a pretty boring name and became the exotic sounding "Bun E. Carlos"

Oooh - Bun's a good one. And in the early days of the band he was known as "Bunzuela". So it's like a double whammy.

Bun E. is a great one. I compiled a list with some friends and he actually wasn't on there.

I won't post the whole list, but here are a few close to what I was thinking with those examples:

Richard Hell

Lux Interior

Captain Beefheart

Poly Styrene

Meat Loaf

Alice Cooper

Iggy Pop

Marilyn Manson

Rob Zombie

Staying with the Pixies...didn't Kim Deal used to go by Mrs. John something-or-other?

Not sure if this fits your criteria, but I love love love the drummer's name from Steel Panther "Stix Zadinia"

Yep, that works. Their real names hardly come up anymore.

Flea's a good one. Sting, too. But there was something in the late punk/new wave era where they really designed an alter ego for themselves, and seemingly just for their role in the band, that I liked. Siouxie Sioux is another one.

Sure, those are all more or less what I was thinking. More the Dead Milkmen style, with the weirdly stylized first/last name combos.

Good stuff!
