I'm not gonna lie & claim I was a massive fan or anything. And the Velvet Underground falls into that category for me that the New York Dolls does - obvious classics that just never clicked for me for whatever reason.

Having said that, the man still did get his mitts into stuff that I DID listen to - the most infamous of which may have been the KISS album "Music From The Elder". Supposedly, he came up with at least the title for this song :

And as for as much as it was panned, I give him a lot of credit for that album he did with Metallica a few years back. I like that he was trying crazy **** at such an advanced age.

I never could get into him. He didn't really sing, he talked over music. And whenever I saw him interviewed he seemed to go out of his way to be an assshole.... but RIP anyways..

I'll just echo this. I would rather not go into my opinion of Lou Reed at this time.

You've never ever heard it but this is my all-time favorite Lou Reed album.  I highly recommend it!

Here's my Lou Reed story:

My wife and I were in O'Hare airport in Chicago, and I saw a guy with a leather jacket trying so hard to look like a rock star. I said to my wife, just loud enough for the guy to hear, "Hey, who does that guy think he is, Lou Reed?" My wife walks by to check him out and says, "That actually is Lou Reed. The other guys are his band. I saw them on TV last night."
