Artist Of The Week #2 : Slade

Bit of a weird story on this bunch, as I came along waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay after their heyday. Even though I was somewhat familiar with them in a general way ( was aware they were huge in the early 70's within the whole "glam rock" deal...knew that Quiet Riot's "Come On Feel The Noise" was a cover of one of their biggest hits, etc. ), I'm not sure I'd ever heard their music until they finally broke thru in the US with this hit :

But about a decade ago, friend burned me a CDR ( remember those? ) of one of their "greatest hits" CD's. And I liked it enough to start picking up their albums when I found 'em. At that point, I got completely hooked. Started learning their history ( spoiler - they had a FASCINATING career ), reading stuff on fan forums, etc.

Love 'em so much now that I'd say they're in my all-time Top 10 favorite groups.

And now...the video onslaught!!!

Some other smashes from their early 70's salad days :

( including "Noize", if you've never heard the original )

( their Christmas song...massive then, still a big hit every holiday season )

If there's interest, later I can post some of personal favorites of theirs. Including a LOT of tunes that weren't big hits.

That's odd as ****, my brother and I were just talking about Slade a few days ago and now this topic appears.

That's one strange magical power. "I can summon Slade via conversation."

And I always wonder how much $$$ Noddy Holder & Jim Lea made off of those Quiet Riot covers. A nice chunk 'o' change, I'd guess.
