yeah i enjoyed this episode. even though they later in the episode said it was boring i liked hearing the entire ramp up about Pat & John's road days. I think pat said at show open that he didn't count songs that were off albums from 1984 but became singles/hits in 1985 i kinda disagree if indeed the song was released as a single in 1985.... but it was funny hearing them goof on John over it.
This one was especially fun for me, as it was stuff from smack dab in the middle of my radio DJ days. 30 years later, & I still can't stomach "We Built This City".
you opened the can Mono.... what's the story about your Radio DJ career? Enquiring minds wanna know?
I get the hate for We Built This City. I don't hate it as much as, say, Walking On Sunshine. That song drives me insane. In-effin-Sane.
But I'm glad when they did play it they talked about the blank space given to the local station to insert their own spiel. Always remember that from back in the day.

That brought back memories for me, too. My station never did the drop-ins, though. We DID present Starship on that tour, with special guests The Outfield ( who I love to this day ).
I was a DJ for KQWK-FM ( Quick Rock 97 ) in the Joplin, MO market from 1984 to 1986. Some of the most fun years of my life. You can see a little bit of info on the station here :
After the station was sold in '86 I moved to the AM side & was the Operations Manager there for another year. I had a couple other radio offers after that, but ended up going back to school in 1987 instead.
My time there came in very handy when I worked for Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems from 1999-2005.
We promoted quite a few concerts during my tenure at Quick Rock. Survivor, Ratt, & we even had a Night Ranger Day in Pittsburg when they came to town. Key to the city, the whole bit.
I wouldn't even know where to begin on stories...if there's anything specific you'd like to know fire away.
Oh, here's one funny nugget - my old boss there works for Taylor Swift now.
The Outfield were great. Sucked to hear John Spinks passed away last year.
I did college radio but that was it. I know radio seems to be a dying field but my dream job I think would be to have some late night radio show where I'm able to just play what I want on some small market station.
