Last year, it seemed like the theme of my year-end "Best Of" list was "New Albums From Old Favorites". But man, I've had a hell of a time finding new tunes that give me a tingly feeling in my down-unders this year. I mean, I think I'm gonna have difficulty even coming up with a "10 Best" list for 2013. There's a couple obvious picks, like the latest from The Bronx ( soooooooo good ), & I've really been enjoying this band I stumbled across recently called Gleeson. But after 3-4 records I can think of, it gets ROUGH.
Deep Purple "Now What?!"
Black Sabbath "13"
Arctic Monkeys "AM"
Queens of the Stone Age "...Like Clockwork"
Tegan and Sara "Heartthrob"
David Bowie "The Next Day"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Mosquito"
Daft Punk "Random Access Memories"

I've liked a lot of music from this year (including the aforementioned QOTSA). Here's some others I've really dug:
Waxahatchee-Cerulean Salt
Foxygen-We are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic
The National-Trouble Will Find Me
The Men-New Moon
Kurt Vile-Wakin on a Pretty Daze
Thee Oh Sees-Floating Coffin
Eleanor Friedberger-Personal Record
Ty Segall-Sleeper
Mikal Cronin-MCII
Haim-Days Are Gone
Kanye West's "Yeezus" is a fantastic album. He's a train wreck, but he can make mindblowing music.
Timberlake did TWO albums this year
Lisa Loeb
Man or Astro-Man
Petra Goes to the Movies
The new NIN is pretty good too.
This year's crop of albums was sub par in my opinion, I even didn't enjoy the 'new' (read: stuff from Get a Grip that didn't make that album) stuff from Aerosmith very much and I am an admitted Aerosmith 'fanboi'
In fact I think I bought more comedy Albums this year than music, which never happens
EDIT: I still need to check that new Bowie album though, maybe that'll turn it around for me

I still haven't got around to checking out that new Bowie, aside from what was played on RS.
And your signature made me laugh.
( also - nice shout-out to Sweater )
It really is great stuff. I liked his last album a lot and thought it was underrated, this album I felt like got the praise it warranted. It is a really good Bowie album and easily in my top 5 for his stuff. And I love Greg Behrendt and everything he does but there is something about the Monarchs that is just so listenable and great. Both albums are really fun. I really really like it. Plus they have some awesome Merch.
Also thank you! Maybe it is self indulgent but hearing a guy you have listened to for 7 years say your name is intoxicating. And my girlfriend tends to think my hobbies are sad apparently. (and she isn't wrong.)

It's weird how albums can do that sometimes. I can think of a record in my all-time top 10 ( The Wildhearts "Earth VS The Wildhearts" ) that falls into that category. I bought it, thought "eh" after playing it a couple times, & put it back on the shelf.
Came back to it a couple months later, & it totally clicked. Been a monster fan ever since.
