Last year had to be the skimpiest collection of stuff I've bought in forever. Not even sure I'm gonna bother with a "Best of 2015" list.

And hopefully the fact that I've started 2016 off with an "illegal" download from a blog is not an omen.

haha. I bought a lot of stuff last year but most of it wasn't stuff released last year. I'd been keeping a "Best of 2015" playlist in my iTunes as year went on and I'm kinda with you. I think I'd struggle to piece together a Best of 2015 list. I'll say this I definitely think my favorite album of 2015 was The Go! Team/The Scene Between. It's a band I'd kinda given up on after their last album. I bought this new one just on a whim and really like it.

having said that I'll kick off my 2016 purchase list:

The Jam/Greatest Hits... just watched the doc on Showtime. I'd always been a mild fan of theirs. Got this pretty cheap on eBay. Didn't feel like commiting to buying the albums out right. Will start here.

went to a few record stores while I was just in Florida.
two strokes I checked out were Park Ave CDs in Orlando and Atlantic Sounds in Daytona.

I got:
Descendents/Everything Sucks (one of my favorite records.... now on Vinyl!)
Rancid/Indestructible (also on vinyl)
Stephen Malkmus & Jicks/Real Emotional Trash (cheap used CD)

I just downloaded a song from KEXP by them. I didn't realize when I saw your original post that this was a band featuring Paul Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield. How's the album?

I've only heard it once ( on Spotify, actually...still haven't loaded it onto the iPod yet ). It's good - if you like the kind of stuff Westerberg has done down in his basement the last decade or so you'll like it.

That's the one with the updated version of "Don't Stand So Close To Me", isn't it?

yeah.... which I'm not a fan of but ya know $3 in mint condition for all the other songs is worth it. I think that '86 version is perfect example of what was great about The Police compared to solo Sting. He made this great song boring as **** with that '86 version. Funny thing was I don't know if you remember but they were supposed to rerecord ALL of the songs until Stewart Copeland broke his arm. They'd only gotten through "Don't Stand" and "De Do Do Do." For some reason "De Do Do" didn't make the album. But I have a copy of it. It's just as boring as "Don't Stand '86."

I did NOT know that. Wow. I remember the video for the new version being a lot like the song - very mid 80's...very "look at what we can do with all these gadgets".

here's the 1986 version of "De Do Do" apparently it was a bonus track on one of the reissued versions of their greatest hits CD in the 90s or 00s....

The Police (the 2CD best of from 2007, I have all the Police stuff I don't even know why i bought this there's nothing new or unreleased on it. but i got it for like $2 so I guess it's a completist kinda purchase.)
Hooters/Nervous Night ($3 off eBay, surprised I didn't have this.)
Patti Rotheberg/Ulerior Motives ($2 at Princeton Record Exchange. Loved her first album in 1996 always curious what her stuff after that sounded like. Usually forget to check. In the record store low and behold they have an album by her for 1.99 I think maybe it's her 2nd record but it's from 2015! and still in shrink-wrapped. Why not? It's not bad. Terrible cover though.)
that purchase led me to find her 2nd album on amazon....
Patti Rothberg/Candelabra Cadabra (FREE on amazon....i used AMEX points to buy it.)
Culture/International Herb ($6 on ebay)
Jimmy Cliff/Unlimited ($10 on eBay, always grabbing old Jimmy Cliff CDs if I find them, a lot go for high prices)

well I've been MIA from the board for a long time.... been working down in Baton Rouge and shooting a short film in spare time. But I haven't stopped buying records (to my bank account's chagrin.) But I have stopped listening to Rock Solid. I don't listen to many podcasts anymore but Rock Solid just sort of fell by the wayside for me. It was until last year appointment listening to me. Not sure why it started feeling less so. But it has the last year or so. When I do listen I still enjoy some of the hosts. So yeah I'v bought a lot this year. I travel for work a lot and I can't help but stop in local record shops along the way. Most of this stuff was bought used so I keep it under $5 per CD. I definitely have to ease up on vinyl. I like having it but I'm not listening as much as I thought I would. Originally my plan was to just stick to those special albums I love. But that's kinda fell by wayside too. Anyway enjoy your holidays y'all......
